Red Velvet Cake Recipe
Ingredients
Dry Ingredients
- 2⅔ cups plain cake flour (Note 1)
- 2 tbsp (10g) cocoa powder (unsweetened)
- 1 tsp (5g) baking soda / bi-carb soda (NOT baking powder) (Note 2)
- Pinch of salt
Wet Ingredients
- ½ cup / 1 stick / 113g unsalted butter, at room temperature
- 1½ cups / 300g caster / superfine white sugar (Note 3)
- 2 eggs, at room temperature
- 1 cup vegetable oil
- 1 tsp white vinegar
- 2 tsp vanilla extract (or essence)
- 1 cup buttermilk, at room temperature (Note 4)
- 2½ tbsp red food colouring liquid (not gel)
Frosting
- 14oz / 400g Philadelphia Cream Cheese
- 1 stick / ½ cup / 113g unsalted butter, at room temperature
- 1½ tsp vanilla extract
- 4 cups soft icing sugar / confectioner's sugar, sifted
